Pimpri Chinchwad: In an effort to curb the spread of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal Reverse Osmosis (RO) water plants and RO ATMs supplying unsafe drinking water. On February 10, officials took action against 35 unauthorized facilities following rigorous inspections.
Ensuring Water Safety
With rising concerns over public health and GBS outbreaks, PCMC has been actively testing water samples from privately operated RO plants. Investigations revealed that several unauthorized units were bottling and distributing water sourced from contaminated borewells and open water bodies, posing a serious health risk.
Strict Action Taken
PCMC regional offices have conducted extensive inspections across various zones, leading to multiple closures:
‘B’ Regional Office – 2 RO plants shut down
‘C’ Regional Office – 5 RO plants and 3 RO ATMs closed
‘D’ Regional Office – 6 RO plants and 7 RO ATMs shut down
‘F’ Regional Office – 5 RO plants closed
‘G’ Regional Office – 7 RO ATMs sealed
PCMC has urged residents to verify their drinking water sources and ensure they come from authorized and safe providers.
