Pune: City is witnessing a transformative leap in infrastructure with the rapid progress of the ambitious Ring Road project, valued at ₹42,711 crore. Designed to enhance mobility across the Pune Metropolitan Region, this expansive corridor promises to revolutionize transport, urban development, and suburban connectivity.
The project involves constructing a 172-kilometer six-lane expressway, complemented by two service lanes, spread over four phases covering both eastern and western Pune. Its alignment strategically passes through underdeveloped outskirts and emerging growth corridors, linking more than 29 villages. This connectivity is expected to spur substantial commercial and real estate growth in areas previously isolated from major transport networks.

MSRDC’s dedicated “War Room” coordination has accelerated progress ahead of schedule, with soil testing, land preparation, and initial construction already visible in areas such as Kesnand, Tulapur, and Chandkhed. The project enforces strict compliance, including a penalty of ₹1 lakh per day for contractors who fail to meet deadlines, ensuring disciplined execution.
Beyond easing traffic, the Ring Road incorporates advanced urban engineering features designed to enhance both vehicle and pedestrian safety:

14 subways
13 funnel-shaped traffic management systems
Nine construction companies are actively working in critical zones including Khadakwasla, Mulshi, Urse, and Chakan. This construction activity is already invigorating local economies, increasing demand for labor and materials, and is expected to attract further industrial investments by improving logistics and warehousing capabilities.
This project extends well beyond decongestion efforts. It aims to establish Pune as a multi-nodal development center by integrating underdeveloped zones into the city’s urban fabric, thereby decentralizing infrastructure demands and easing environmental pressures on the core city.
